If you like it, put a ring on it

RingWP

Your first diamond ring is always special. Diamonds, the way they sparkle in sunlight, can make anyone go weak in the knees!

Beyoncé sings in her famous song ‘Single Ladies’ – ‘If you like it, then you should have a put a ring on it!’. That is exactly what I did, the only difference was that I got myself a ring! I don’t mean to sound narcissistic, but you have to treat yourself once in a while, don’t you? And what is wrong about loving yourself after all? 😀 It is only when you love yourself that others will love you! YOU are the protagonist of your own life!

Seeing that ring on my finger gives me the strength to pull through any tough day! The way strings of light hop around the cuts to create tiny rainbows amuses me and makes me truly happy! I can’t help but smile when I glance at it(which I do a lot!)

Mine isn’t a magnificently big diamond, but it is magnificent to me because it is the first ring that I got on my own. Maybe some day, I’ll be able to get myself a bigger stone! The things that dreams are made up of ❤ Although I often wonder if I would feel the same way about this one if I got a bigger ring- I would I feel so sad, it would almost be like abandoning this ring 😦

In hindsight, I never had a strong inclination towards real jewelry while growing up. I liked stuff that I could ‘throw around’, basically low maintenance and worry-free. Financial independence has changed and empowered me in a lot of ways, this being one such instance. Or is liking real jewelry something that comes with age? It could also be part of a journey of building a style for yourself as you grow up. There could be many reasons, but the ability to spend your own money on things you like is definitely one of the most important factors. Had it been a gift, I doubt if I would have treasured it as much. It gives you such pride to have ‘earned’ things!

The band on my ring is in 18K Gold, with one round cut solitaire of 0.33ct and clarity of VVS1; surrounded by 5 smaller diamonds on both sides. When not being worn, it sits snugly in its box from Rajathadhri Jewelers.

Here’s a nerdy look at classifying a diamond-

I put a ring on my finger and lived happily ever after! 🙂

  1. I couldn’t agree more with your philosophy! I want to commend you on providing inspiration for the younger generations of women. Women (myself included) often wait for a man to come dashing into our lives on a white horse to make our lives complete, and therefor happy. I have learned that relationships do not suddenly make our lives happy, and that it is important to create a life we love whether single, dating, married, or whatever the status! I also believe that if, and when, we do find love, our chances of having a successful relationship are greater if we are confident and have a sense of independence.

Last, I just came across your website for the first time and am exited to read more! I love learning about other cultures, people and especially the fashion across the world (I live in the state of Utah, USA). None is more colorful than India!

    • Thank you so much for your kind words! Yes, indeed, we need to create happiness and meaning for ourselves before we go out seeking for it. We deserve all the love we can give ourselves! And you might be on the dashing white horse yourself, so ride on girl, more power to you!

I’m so glad you liked my blog, thank you!
